Lake 69 is one of those places that changes the way you see nature. Located in the heart of the Cordillera Blanca, inside Huascarán National Park, this turquoise lake lies at the foot of towering peaks such as Huascarán and Pisco. Our full-day trek from Huaraz will take you through Andean valleys, waterfalls, and mountain trails, until reaching one of the most famous lagoons in Peru.

At 04:00 AM, we pick you up from your hotel in Huaraz and begin the drive toward the Huascarán National Park, enjoying the sunrise and the first views of the Cordillera Blanca. The journey takes you through small Andean villages and valleys until we reach Cebollapampa (3,900 m / 12,795 ft), the starting point of the trek.
Upon arrival, our guide will give you a short briefing, and we start hiking towards Lake 69. The ascent takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, following mountain trails surrounded by high-Andean meadows, waterfalls, and stunning views of iconic peaks such as Huascarán, Pisco, and Chacraraju. We will make short stops along the way to rest and enjoy the scenery.
Once we arrive at Lake 69 (4,600 m / 15,092 ft), you will have time to relax, take photos, and enjoy the turquoise waters framed by glaciers and snow-capped mountains. This is the perfect moment to rest and enjoy a snack while taking in the silence of the Andes.
Afterward, we begin our descent back to Cebollapampa along the same trail, taking approximately 2 to 3 hours. Once we return to the starting point, we board our private transportation back to Huaraz.
Arrival at your hotel is estimated between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, ending a memorable adventure in one of the most impressive lagoons of the Cordillera Blanca.

Lake 69 can be visited year-round, but the best time is during the dry season (May–September). During these months there is less rain, better trail conditions, and clearer views of the snow-capped mountains. In the rainy season it is still possible to do the trek, but weather changes can occur quickly. We always recommend checking the weather forecast before traveling from Huaraz.
Yes. We recommend spending 1–2 days in Huaraz to acclimatize before the trek. High altitude can affect anyone, even experienced hikers. Short hikes or easy tours like Wilcacocha or Laguna Churup help the body adapt. Staying hydrated and avoiding alcohol also helps reduce the chances of altitude sickness.
The Lake 69 tour lasts approximately 12–14 hours in total from Huaraz. The hiking portion takes 6–7 hours, including time at the lake. The tour usually departs around 4:00 AM and returns between 5:00–6:00 PM. The route includes transportation, a guide, rest stops, and time to enjoy the landscapes of the Cordillera Blanca.
Swimming is not allowed since the water comes directly from nearby glaciers and is extremely cold, around 5°C (41°F). It is also prohibited for environmental protection and safety reasons. However, you can take photos, enjoy the turquoise waters, and admire the snow-capped peaks surrounding the lake.
The tour includes round-trip private transportation from Huaraz, a certified guide, and full assistance throughout the trek. It does not include the entrance fee to Huascarán National Park, meals, or personal trekking gear. We recommend bringing water, snacks, and adequate clothing for high-altitude trekking.
